Chile Ski Trip, The Ultimate Skiing Tour on Volcanoes in Chile 15D/14N

Skiing tours are an excellent experience, but having the opportunity to holiday in the Andes Mountain Range in South America and ski on five volcanoes will surely be one of the most memorable times in your life. You’ll be skiing on and off-piste, visiting five Ski Resorts of the Lake & Volcano District in Chile, and will be accompanied by highly experienced instructors. All this adventure is combined with volcano climbing, hot springs, great hotels and excellent cuisine. This trip is not to be missed -

DAY 01: SANTIAGO – TEMUCO Upon arriving to Santiago’s International Airport, passenger will have to take the connection flight to Temuco (1 hour flight). Welcome to the Southern Volcanoes! Our staff will meet you at Temuco Airport and drive you to the city, where we’ll check in at your hotel and have a rest. That evening we will check your ski gear, have an orientation and briefing session, and enjoy an introductory dinner with your guides and fellow skiers. DAY 02: SKI ARAUCARIAS, LLAIMA VOLCANO – WARM UP SKI SESSION After an early morning breakfast, we leave Temuco and travel to Llaima Volcano (2 hour drive). At about 10 am we’ll be arriving at the Araucarias Ski Center, located in the National Park Conguillío. This quaint and uncrowded ski center surrounded by araucaria forests has two draglifts and one double chairlift. There are nine runs available to choose from according to your skiing level. Like most of the southern ski centers, you’ll be astonished by the view to other volcanoes, in this occasion Lonquimay and Villarrica. Assisted by the local piste-basher we’ll get as high as possible in the mountain and enjoy the great off-piste skiing of the area. At lunch time we’ll enjoy our meal at the cafeteria and around 5 pm, we’ll return to Temuco and have dinner at a local restaurant. Accommodation at Hotel Dreams & Spa in Temuco / B / L / D /

DAY 03: CORRALCO SKI RESORT, LONQUIMAY VOLCANO – TRAINING DAY In the morning we leave Temuco and drive in our private vans 120 kilometers (75 miles) northeast to Malalcahuello (2 hours drive), a mountain village ½ hour away from Corralco Ski Center, which is located at the base of the still active Lonquimay Volcano. You will enjoy the breath taking scenery of the Nalcas-Malalcahuello Natural Reserve filled with thousand year old Araucaria forests (monkey puzzle trees) covered in snow at this time of the year. After checking in at the lodge, we’ll enjoy the excellent slopes and unmatched snow conditions of this ski center. Corralco Mountain Center offers 500 acres of uncrowded ski runs for all levels of ski and snowboard lovers. This mountain resort has one draglift for the beginner runs and one double chairlift for medium and advanced skiers, more than enough to enjoy this beautiful terrain. The view from above is absolutely stunning, overlooking fantastic peaks of the Andean Araucanía, such as Sierra Nevada (2.554 mts. / 8.379 feet) and Llaima volcano, as well as more distant landmarks like Lanín volcano to the south. Once you reach the end of the chairlift you’ll have seven runs to choose from as well as a vast 2,470 acres ski domain to go off-piste through valleys and gullies.

Today we’ll begin training all the technical skills that you will have to use throughout the tour. On a practical level you will learn how to perform at skiing backcountry, doing kick-turns and using all the gear, such as skins, crampons, touring bindings, and ice axes. Please note that in Corralco there are only 2 small single room available (first floor) with shared bathroom. In total there are 10 rooms: 6 rooms on the ground floor (4 twin and 2 matrimonial) all of them with private bathroom; and 4 rooms on the first floor (2 twin and 2 small single) that share 2 bathrooms. Keep in mind this information when booking.

DAY 04: CORRALCO, LONQUIMAY VOLCANO – SKI OFF PISTE Today we will focus on skiing off-piste with the coaching of our instructors. We will be towed up in snowmobiles to the highest peaks of the area to maximize our off-piste options in the untouched slopes. Accommodation at Corralco Lodge / B / L / D /

DAY 05: CORRALCO – VOLCANO CLIMB + MALALCAHUELLO HOT SPRINGS Today if we have favorable weather conditions, we’ll try to ascend the Lonquimay volcano (2.865 mts / 9.400 feet) and reach its massive crater. From the end of the chairlift we’ll begin the tough hike to the top (4-6 hours). Upon reaching the top we’ll take in the magnificent view and then begin skiing off-piste to the bottom of the slopes. This activity is strictly reserved for those people in strong physical condition and an advanced level of skiing. After our descent, we’ll visit Malalcahuello Hot Springs, the most luxurious SPA in the area. The facilities offer swimming pools with thermal water with temperatures varying from 6ºC, 38ºC and 42ºC, as well as hydro-massage and swimming against the current. The Spa offers massages and beauty therapy services for an additional cost. For those more interested in revelry and merrymaking, there is a restaurant and bar. Later we’ll enjoy and share a typical BBQ-dinner at a local family house. Overnight in Corralco / B / BL / D /

DAY 06: CORRALCO – PUCÓN We’ll start our day skiing during the morning with the possibility to go off-piste, always accompanied by local guides. At lunch time we’ll enjoy our lunch in Corralco. Following lunch, we’ll take the van and drive to Pucón, the principal adventure tourism destination in the Lake & Volcano District of Chile. We’ll check in at Antumalal Hotel and have a great dinner at their restaurant. / B / L / D /

DAY 07: PUCON, VILLARRICA VOLCANO – SKI OFF PISTE In these 3 next days we'll enjoy the Pucón Ski Center, skiing on the active Villarrica Volcano. The center has 9 ski-lifts (5 draglifts and 3 chairlifts), and 20 runs to choose from. The views from the slopes overlooking Lake Villarrica and the surrounding volcanoes are fabulous. At the base of the resort there is a lively cafeteria, and a nice terrace to relax and enjoy your meal. At around five we’ll head back to Pucón to eat dinner and stay overnight at Antumalal Hotel / B / L / D /

DAY 08: VILLARRICA VOLCANO CLIMB + HOT SPRINGS Early in the morning (7 am) we will go to Pucón Ski Center, If the weather permits, today we’ll have the chance to hike up the Villarrica volcano (2.847 meters) and reach its active crater, and then ski off-piste all the way down. We will always be accompanied by our mountain guides. The ascent lasts approximately 5 hours and only 30 minutes to ski down. In the evening, we’ll go to Huife Hot Springs, a thermal center located by the Liucura River and surrounded by stunning native forests; the perfect end to this very active day. The place offers three outdoor thermal pools at different temperatures, a good restaurant and a cafeteria. In addition, the center also includes massage and beauty therapy services for an additional cost. In this place you can enjoy the scenery while relaxing in the therapeutic thermal waters. It is highly recommendable to change pools because when varying the body temperature that stimulates blood circulation, i.e. from hot to cold water; but if you feel brave enough, we encourage you to go into the cold waters of the river Liucura and then jump back to a hot pool. We’ll have dinner at Huife’s restaurant and then head back to Pucón. Accommodation at Antumalal Hotel / B / L / D /

DAY 09 SKI PUCON – HUILO-HUILO Today we’ll try a second attempt to the summit of Villarrica volcano or simply ski at the ski center. In the afternoon, we’ll travel from Pucón to Huilo-Huilo, driving 3 hours approximately. We’ll arrive to Neltume and the Nature Reserve of Huilo-Huilo. We’ll check in at the fantastic Baobab Hotel 4stars, where we’ll enjoy all our meals and stay overnight. If you need some extra relaxation, you can enjoy Lawenco SPA. / B / L / D /

DAY 10: MOCHO & CHOSHUENCO VOLCANOES – CLIMB Today we’ll experience the fantastic adventure of climbing two volcanoes in one day. After an early morning breakfast we’ll take a 4x4 pick-up truck and go off-road through the native forest until we reach the snow. There, a Snow Cat and snowmobiles will be waiting to take us for a two hour-long ride to a plateau at the skirts of both volcanoes. There aren’t any ski lifts, so skinning and hiking are the only ways to reach the top of both volcanoes, Mocho (2.422 meters) and Choshuenco (2.415 meters). The views are absolutely amazing, overlooking the Lanín and Villarrica volcanoes. We’ll be back to Huilo-Huilo, enjoy dinner and stay overnight. / B / BL / D /

DAY 11: HUILO-HUILO – DAY OFF A day of rest from skiing doesn’t mean you have nothing to do. There are activities in Huilo-Huilo for everyone; including hiking trails, horseback riding, and spectacular waterfalls. And for the more adventurous: the canopy tour (zip line). • Within the park there are four hiking trails: the Magnetic Stones trail (3-hour hike, medium), the Truful Route (3½-hour hike, medium), the Truful River (6-hour hike, difficult) and Quinchamalí Lookout (3-hour hike, easy). Some of the highlights include a botanical forest, scenic clear-water lagoons, mighty waterfalls and amazing views of snow-capped volcanoes. • For those who want to learn about the reserve’s plants and wildlife, there are scientific walks that focus on botany, bird watching, and geology, as well as flora & fauna interpretation • A terrific way to experience the beauty of the area is with a canopy tour; a group of platforms between 15 and 25 m high (50 to 80 feet) that are linked to each other by hanging bridges and suspended steel wires. You’ll literally feel like you are flying over the rainforest, rivers and canyons as you glide across the cables. We’ll be back to Huilo-Huilo, enjoy dinner and stay overnight. / B / L / D /

DAY 12: HUILO HUILO – SKI ANTILLANCA After an early breakfast we’ll depart (7:30 a.m.) to Antillanca Ski Resort (5 hour drive), located at the slopes of the Casablanca volcano (1,990 meters) in the National Park Puyehue. The ski center has 1 double chairlift, 3 draglifts and 13 runs. This resort is locally renowned for its excellent off-piste skiing and the views over three volcanoes and two lakes. We’ll have lunch in Antillanca and ski until late. Dinner and lodging at Hotel Termas de Puyehue 4stars, an all inclusive hotel with luxury hot springs / B / L / D /

DAY 13: ANTILLANCA, CASABLANCA VOLCANO CLIMB Today we’ll try to climb the Casablanca volcano and ski during the afternoon, the climb is easier than most of the other volcanoes so this is your last opportunity to conquer a summit. Return to Puyehue Hotel to relax at the hot springs and enjoy dinner. / B / BL / D /

DAY 14: SKI ANTILLANCA This is your last chance to enjoy the Chilean snow. We’ll ski with the instructors in the morning and after lunch you can have the rest of the day at leisure to relax or keep skiing until late. Return to Puyehue Hotel to relax at the hot springs and enjoy dinner. / B / L / D /

DAY 15: PUYEHUE – OSORNO AIRPORT Sadly, it’s time to say good-bye to the beautiful Lake & Volcano District of Chile. After breakfast, we’ll ride in vans to Osorno Airport to catch your flight back to Santiago. It’s been a trip you will always remember! End of services. / B /
