Visiting El Cañi Sanctuary is much more than simply tourism; it’s a profound contact with ancient forest that enables you to expand awareness wide enough to begin to sense mysterious echoes coming down from past millennia. To experience the forest and its rhythms is to live the true meaning of deep ecology, as you become immersed in it, identified with it. We invite you to leave behind those city habits, even for a few brief hours, and touch and vibrate with this magical place.
Around 6pm we’ll return to Pucón. Upon arriving to Pucón, we’ll check the mountain gear for ascending Villarrica Volcano next morning.

Huife Hot Springs
Location: Huife (15 min drive from El Cañi)
Difficulty: low
Time: 2 hours
Fitness level: Everybody
Experience: None
Includes: Entrance fee
We leave El Cañi and drive 15 minutes through a scenic rural road to visit and unwind at Huife Hot Springs, which will be the perfect end to this active day.
The thermal center is located by the Liucura River and is surrounded by stunning native forests. The place offers three outdoor thermal pools at different temperatures, a good restaurant and a cafeteria. In addition, the center also includes massage and beauty therapy services for an additional cost. In this place you can enjoy the scenery while relaxing in the therapeutic thermal waters. It is highly recommendable to change pools because varying the body temperature stimulates blood circulation, i.e. from hot to cold water, but if you feel brave enough, we encourage you to go into the cold waters of the river Liucura and then jump back to a hot pool. Return to Pucón at 7pm
DAY 02: HUERQUEHUE NATIONAL PARK HIKE
Difficulty: medium
Time full day: 7 hours
Fitness level: active
Experience: none
Includes: Guide, transport, entrance fee and picnic lunch

Departing from Pucón, the main adventure destination in the Lake & Volcano District, we head southeast in the direction of Huerquehue National Park, located at the foothills of the Andes, 35 km (22 miles) from Pucón.
The hike starts easy but after a short distance the trail becomes rougher and sometimes steeper, but is still considered a relatively easy hiking level.
We have arrived at the first lookout point where the views of Villarrica Volcano (2.847 m / 9.349 feet) and Tinquilco Lake are absolutely stunning; here you’ll find great photo opportunities as well as chance to reenergize with a snack. As we continue hiking, our guide will point out some wild flora of the area (i.e. mutisias, orchids and alstroemerias), and if luck is on our side, we can spot some birds that live in the forests of Nothofagus, such as chucao tapaculo (Selorchilis rubecula), black-throated huet-huet (Pteroptochos tarnii) and the magellan woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus) among others.
Once we reach 1000 m / 3.280 feet above sea level we begin to see the first araucarias (Araucaria araucana). Soon we will walk through a mixed forest with many of these trees, considered to be a living fossil and a national monument for their exceptional characteristics.
We have hiked around 2½ hours when we arrive at the first lake called Chico (small), with its clear waters reflecting the image of hundred of araucarias and snow-capped peaks. 15 minutes later, we arrive at Lago Toro (Bull Lake). Here we eat our well deserved picnic lunch and spend some more time taking pictures or simply resting. We can watch the breathtaking landscape and spot some of the birdlife that inhabits the shores of this lake, such as the Andean ducks (Oxyura ferruginea), aiding our observation with binoculars.
Following the break, we keep going through an easy terrain and visit the third lake called Verde (green) which is the last attraction of our hike. Now we can commence a two-hour decent by the same trail to the parking area. Return to hotel or meeting place.
DAY 03: PICHILLANCAHUE GLACIER HIKE + GEOMETRICAS HOT SPRINGS
Difficulty: Medium
Time full day: 8 hours

Experience: none
Includes: Guide, transport, entrance fee to Hot Springs and picnic lunch
Not included: water
Departing from Pucón, we drive 40 miles by minibus to Coñaripe, where we take a 20-mile dirt road that leads us by the Llancahue river valley to the National Park Villarrica. We will see several majestic snow-capped volcanoes such as Quetrupillan and Rucapillan. The vegetation changes from raulí (Nothofagus alpina) and hualle forests (Nothofagus oblicua) to gigantic thousand-year old araucarias as we ascend to Chinay, the higher point of the day at 1.250 meters / 4.101 feet above sea level. After approximately 2 ½ hours of steady hike, we’ll arrive at the Pichi Llancahue Glacier trail, where we’ll take a good break and grab a bite of a snack. Later we’ll hike the trail (2 ½ hours round trip) that leads to a phenomenal glacier which is absolutely covered by the volcanic ashes of the Villarrica volcano. Once again you’ll enjoy the stunning views of four volcanoes.
Back to the entrance of the trail, we’ll hike back to the exit of the park. Then we’ll visit the fantastic Geometricas Hot Springs.

Ascending the active Villarrica Volcano is without a doubt a once in a lifetime experience, the climb is not technical, but you need to be in good shape to reach the summit.
Once we arrive at the parking lot we can buy the lift ticket that will take us to the higher part of the ski courses at 1.800 mts / 5.906 feet, saving us almost 2 hours of climbing.. “Welcome to the First Geopark in Chile”
Departing from our hotel in Pucón, we’ll drive about 2 hours passing through old-fashioned little towns like Cunco and Melipeuco until we’ll get to the Conguillío National Park, one of the most attractive and outstanding parks of the Lakes & Volcanoes District and the first Geopark in Chile.
While we visit the park you will witness how the Llaima volcano has permanently shaped the landscape of the area with its eruptions and you’ll have the fantastic opportunity to walk on the lava flows that once came from the heart of the Earth.
We’ll also visit the Truful-Truful Falls and the pristine Arco Iris (Rainbow) Lagoon with its clear waters that reflect stunning colors. Then we’ll have a picnic-lunch at Playa Linda (cute beach) located at the shores of Conguillío Lake; followed by hiking along the Sierra Nevada trail (3 ½ hours round trip) surrounded by native trees, including ancient monkey-puzzle trees or araucarias and Nothofagus. We’ll also be able to spot endemic birds such as the magellan woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus), which we will see searching the tree trunks for insects. We will also hear and possibly catch a glimpse of the chucao tapaculo (Selorchilis rubecula) and the noisy slender-billed parakeet (Enicognatus leptorhynchus). After spending some time taking pictures and enjoying the amazing view, we’ll hike back to the bottom of the trail and then get in the van to drive to commence our return to the urban areas, driving to Pucón.
