Clos Apalta and Montes Tour is a superb experience. The Colchagua Valley is one of the world’s premier wine tourist destinations. Known for its beautiful vineyard covered hills, hundred year old vines, enchanting colonial estate houses and modern high tech wineries, sets up a perfect atmosphere to enjoy a day trip from Santiago city.
Located in the southern half of the Rapel Valley, the Colchagua Valley has evolved over the last twenty years from being a calm stretch of farmland to becoming one of the largest and most active wine-producing regions in the country. The relatively low altitude of the coastal hills allows the Pacific breeze to mingle with the Andean winds, which cools the valley and prolongs the maturation period of the region. This is advantageous for the preservation of acidity in the grapes, and helps to generate red wines with excellent coloring, great freshness, and very good keeping qualities. The large majority of wine produced here is red, with a particular propensity for the production of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Although, the newer plantations close to the coast have also proven to be a region with great potential for cool-climate white wines.

Clos Apalta has a micro-climate which is significantly distinct from the general climate of Chile. It could be called semi-Mediterranean, with winter rains and a long, dry summer; weather conditions that allow the grapes to reach optimum maturity. The extreme thermal oscillation favors the accumulation of anthocyanins which creates the deep, rich color of the wines.

One of the things not to be missed in the Colchagua Valley is lunch surrounded by the wonderful vines at the heart of our Finca de Apalta. All this, with the unparalleled seal of the renowned chef, Francis Mallmann and an extensive wine list where you can choose among the different vintages of Montes wines and others from the Colchagua Valley. The cuisine features meat, fish, and vegetables prepared with different types of fire in the specially designed dome located in the centre of the restaurant, where visitors can see how the ingredients are grilled, smoked, and baked in preparation for the dishes listed on the menu. You’ll have the option to choose a la carte and pay for your own lunch. We’ll take care of booking a table for you

At 16:00 hrs you’ll enjoy the double Icon Wine Tour at Montes winery. Walk through our beautiful vineyards, with a great view of the Valley. Tour of our mystical winery where the Premium and Ultra Premium wines are made: Montes Alpha M, Montes Folly, Purple Angel and Montes Alpha. Visit our Barrel Room, where our best wines rest and mature accompanied by Cantos Gregorianos.
